오늘의 하루한올팝은 베트 미들러(Bette Midler)의 "From a distance"입니다. 김광한의 올드팝스 베스트에서는 71위에 선정되었습니다. 베트 미들러가 1990년에 발표한 7번째 앨범 "Some People's Live"에 수록된 곡입니다. 원래 이 곡은 1987년 낸시 그리피스(Nanci Griffith)가 처음 발표했었습니다. 1989년 주디 콜린스(Judy Collins), 1990년 클리프 라처드(Cliff Richard) 그리고 버즈(Byrds)가 발표했고 그 이후에도 많은 가수들이 커버한 곡입니다. 베트 버전이 당시 걸프전과 맞물려 미군장병들 사이에 높은 인기를 얻었다고 합니다. 가사내용은 신이 지켜보고 있으니 멀리서 보면 다 좋게 보이니 싸우지 말자는 반전 메시지를 담고 있는 듯해서일 것입니다. 역설적이게도 꼭 멀리서 봐야하는냐, 신은 왜 지켜만 보고 있는가라는 의문이 들 수도 있어서인지는 몰라도 VH1, AOL,블렌더 등의 매체에서 역사상 최악의 노래에 선정되는 굴육을 안기도 합니다.
